What should I do if I believe I was the victim of employment discrimination?

If you believe you are the victim of discrimination based on gender, race, religion, sexuality or nationality in the workplace, it is important to take it seriously. There are a few steps to take that will hopefully help should you need to take legal action.

First, make sure to document everything. Whether the discrimination is explicit, in the form of comments or actions, or implicit, in the form of unequal treatment or pay, keep all evidence and make notes. Be detailed and include information on what happened, when and who was involved.

Next, report the discrimination to the Human Resources department or a superior such as a supervisor or manager. Remember to keep copies of or notes on any reports made. If superiors are involved in discriminating against you, report the issue to someone else, if possible.

If reporting the incident does not resolve the discrimination, contact an experienced employment law attorney who may be able to pursue legal action against the employer.

The caring professionals at Strong Advocates can help you determine if you have been the victim of discrimination in the workplace. Contact us today for a free case evaluation.
